Rotary pressure joints

Rotary pressure joints is a unit which ensures sealing between the stationary and feeding tube and the rotary cylinder to ensure heat transfer through the fluid medium or from the rotary element of the equipment. For heat transfer, the following fluid media are normally used: steam, water, thermal oil, hydraulic oil and cooling fluid medium.

The process liquid in the swivel connection is sealed by means of a mechanical seal. The mechanical seal spring ensures contact between the sealing surfaces before putting the machine in operation, and during operation contact occurs from the hydraulic pressure impact, except for low operating pressure and vacuum cases. The choice of a proper mechnical seal is a cruicial factor in ensuring effective operation of the swivel connection, because if the mechnical seal fails, the fluid medium starts leaking out, which signifficantly reduces the cooling or heating process efficiency in general. The swivel connection design allows replacing the mechanical seal easily, thus reducing costs signifficantly, which may be incurred when the process has low efficiency.

The key criteria in selecting the swivel connection type are the application of the swivel connection and the type of fluid medium. Besides, as mentioned before, the swivel connection design also depends on the fluid medium flow direction. i.e. on whether the flow is unidirectional or bidirectional.

In selecting a mechanical seal being a swivel connection component, the fluid medium characteristics need to be taken into consideration. The combination of the carbographite / tingsten carbide sealing surfaces of the meachnical seal is generally used in moderately severe operating conditions in respect of temperature and chemical aggressivity of the process liquid. In such cases, it is recommended to use silicon carbide sealing surfaces. The combination of graphite / silicone carbide sealing surfaces is the best choice for processes in which hot oil is used as a process liquid

The steam head (rotary connection) is a machine assembly which ensures supply of the working medium (steam) from the system to the rotary equipment, as well as simultaneous condensate removal from the rotary equipment to the stationary system.
